-a lesson consisting of playing the second and third movements of Dvorak by memory
-a studio class consisting of the same with piano
-a lesson to teach
-two lessons to observe
-plenty of hours of practice, including a few polishing ones tonight after Tom leaves
This weekend will prove to be a bit taxing, but not as bad as the next couple of days. I must:
-teach two lessons
-prepare for my orchestra rep final (Heldenleben, here we come!)
-complete my observation journal and make it look super pretty in order to up my grade from waiting until the end of the quarter to do all my observations
-spend mega time with Tom... I haven't seen him barely at all over these past few weeks, it seems. I miss him.
And while I was typing all these things, I received several reminders of why I love it here. Jennie came and chatted with me for a while in between shifts. Kim visited and bitched about her orch rep final. And Yampolsky called from Cheyenne, just wanting to chat and figure out how his conducting students did on their finals this week.
People here are just amazing. Even Ribeiro, through his extreme talent to make you unbelievably frustrated with yourself and never him, had a great, supportive talk with me during our last lesson. My stress level goes up, but my confidence is slowly catching up along with it.
Technique has always been a bother with me. I was never a Suzuki kid, I never had to memorize stuff until college, and until my barrier my sophomore year at UNC, I never really understood what musical and collegiate stress was all about. Since then, the stress has gotten bigger, but the rewards have gotten better. And I'm slowly reaching a point where I can allow my musicality to assist my technique, instead of letting it get in the way. Fuchs was right - I've got oodles of soul. And if I can just let it assist me instead of distract me, I can really get in line for success.
So, in any case, this lesson this afternoon could be a grave disaster or a wonderful success, depending on how badly I let Ribeiro distract me. Haaaaaaappy weekend soon, everybody.
