Just starting to see the end...

This Thanksgiving thing in November will be a welcome break. Though until then, the proverbial snowball is so big that I'm not sure I'll survive when it rolls over me.

This week is almost finished, with only work, rehearsal, and Ribeiro's recital to go to on Saturday and but one lesson to teach on Sunday. This will (hopefully) grant me some desperately needed practice time. Next week I have two lessons PLUS a performance in studio class (stressed? Perhaps.) and I've got to have this stupid Tchaikovsky ready to go for when I get back from break. Monday is also Don Juan day in orch rep class... and I have to go because I used up my skip day when I was sick. Damn it. A week from tomorrow is our NUSO concert, and then it's just three more days of classes and work before I flee Chicago to the safety of... Knoxville? What the hell? My life has suddenly become as turned around as the ideals of this country.

But after I come back from Thanksgiving, there won't be too much to do. I have to perform the first movement of Tchaikovsky, do a performance of a Soldier's Tale for a trumpet recital, and work a few more days before the glory of Christmas break begins.

And don't think I'm not excited about the prospect of another Soldier's Tale performance. For those of you who don't know, Stravinsky wrote this piece that's probably about 35 minutes long for violin, bass, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. It's incredibly demanding on all the instruments, and at UNC I did it in place of an orchestra concert with dear Julian. Of course, the day of the concert, my A string went false and I had to replace it with a new one from Chan that kept slipping during the performance. So the recording is all out of tune and fugly. Here's my second chance!

Not too terrible of a quarter, all things considered. I still have time to do just about nothing, but seeing the end in sight is very VERY promising.

Now if only my financial situation would magically heal itself... then I'd be all set.
